The sun was already high in the sky, and Dad was busy in the yard repairing the fence under the hot weather. Sweat rolled down his face as he worked carefully, making sure everything was strong and safe for the family. CUTIS watched from a distance, unusually quiet and thoughtful.
Normally, CUTIS would run around playfully or stay close to Dad, but today he slowly walked away from the yard. Dad noticed but didn’t say anything, thinking maybe CUTIS just wanted to play somewhere else. However, CUTIS wasn’t playing at all. He had something important on his mind.
He quietly went to the small storage area behind the house and searched through old items. After a few minutes, he found a small hat and a fan that Mom used during very hot days. CUTIS remembered how tired Dad looked and wanted to do something helpful, but in his own special way.
CUTIS then walked to the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of cool water. Carrying everything carefully in his tiny hands, he hurried back to the yard. From far away, it might have looked like he had left Dad while he was working hard, but in reality, he was preparing a surprise.
When CUTIS returned, Dad was surprised to see him holding the hat, the fan, and the water bottle. CUTIS gently handed them to Dad, as if saying, “Please rest and take care of yourself.”
Dad couldn’t stop smiling. He knelt down, hugged CUTIS, and felt touched by his thoughtful action. CUTIS didn’t leave because he didn’t care — he left because he cared deeply and wanted to help in the best way he could.
This heartwarming moment showed that sometimes, love is shown not by staying close, but by quietly finding ways to make someone’s burden lighter.
